A good friend of mine lives in Providence, Rhode Island and invited me to join her for an evening of free swing dancing to a live band at Waterfire. Well how could I resist such a fun idea?
There was much fun and dancing up a storm.
There was also a procession of torches...
and of course, fire along and on the river (hence the event's name)
All in all I had such a lovely evening with fun and good friends. It reminded me that I really need to go out dancing more often. And that there are fun affordable things to do all around New England this time of year. I hope to take part in more of them.
This is the story of one woman's attempt to sell handmade crafts in a disposable culture. Will online marketplaces be enough to feed her bead habit and creative impulses? Only time will tell.

self portraits past
It has been a while since I've done much photography. But for a few years I was taking a self portrait every day as part of the 365 Days project on Flickr. I am still very happy about what I learned doing that (about photography, but also about body image and about myself in general).
Today I was thrilled to discover that one of my favorite self portraits was chosen to be featured on the Flickr blog.
Here is the photo on its own:

The left half is a photo my father took of me when I was around 8 years old. I get any hint of photography talent I might actually have from him so it seems only appropriate that this image should get the most attention of pretty much any one that I have taken.
